Platform Modernisation
Modernise critical technology without disrupting the business

Ageing platforms rarely need to be replaced all at once. They need to be understood, stabilised and improved in the right order.

Fife-V helps organisations modernise business-critical technology across software, cloud infrastructure, data platforms, networks, data centres and edge-device fleets.

We combine architecture with hands-on implementation. That means we can investigate how a platform really works, identify the greatest risks and constraints, create a practical roadmap, and deliver the critical changes alongside your existing team.

When we can help

Talk to us if:

  • Your platform has become difficult or risky to change.

  • Reliability problems are consuming engineering time.

  • Legacy components are preventing product development.

  • A cloud migration, rebuild or infrastructure programme has stalled.

  • Manual processes and fragile integrations no longer scale.

  • Deployment, testing, monitoring or recovery needs improvement.

  • Physical devices, data-centre systems and cloud services must work reliably together.

  • You need an independent technical assessment before making a major investment.

Modernisation across the complete platform
Applications, cloud and data

Paul Edmondson specialises in software architecture and hands-on delivery across AWS, data-intensive applications, APIs, authentication, databases and applied AI.

His recent work includes architecting and building an AWS-native connected-TV measurement platform that collects data from more than 200 devices, matches content against more than six million titles and 17.7 million artworks, and processes approximately 300,000 observations each week.

The platform combines serverless processing, distributed job orchestration, GraphQL and REST APIs, PostgreSQL, analytical databases, monitoring, image processing and machine-learning-assisted matching.

Infrastructure, edge and operations

Ryan Fife specialises in infrastructure, data-centre operations, networking, automation and large device fleets.

At Looper Insights, Ryan built the R&D and lab operations function from scratch and developed a fleet of 425 device-control units operating across two data centres. The infrastructure supports revenue-critical data collection and repeatable installation, updating and baseline management.

His modernisation work has included:

  • Reducing rack-space growth requirements by 20%, saving approximately £50,000 per year during the first two years.

  • Refactoring a video-collection pipeline to reduce CPU use by around one-third.

  • Halving container image size and cutting uncached build time from approximately one hour to 25 minutes.

  • Automating deployment and documentation across more than 400 devices.

  • Building repeatable virtual environments that reproduced a 20-plus-server production platform.

  • Delivering encryption at rest across a live enterprise estate.

  • Replacing a discontinued third-party voice platform without abandoning the product.

Together, we can work from the physical source of the data through networking, infrastructure, cloud services, databases, APIs and customer-facing applications.

A practical, incremental approach
  1. Assess — We examine the architecture, code, infrastructure, data flows, integrations, deployment process, operational practices, security and costs. Where relevant, this includes physical devices, networks, data-centre operations and the boundary between edge and cloud systems.

  2. Prioritise — We produce a clear modernisation roadmap based on business value, operational risk, cost and delivery effort—not a fashionable technology wishlist. We identify what should be retained, repaired, replaced or retired

  3. Implement — We deliver critical improvements ourselves or work alongside your existing team. Changes are introduced in manageable stages while the existing service continues to operate.

  4. Automate — We reduce manual work through repeatable deployment, testing, monitoring, infrastructure management and operational tooling.

  5. Hand over — We document the platform, explain the decisions and leave your team able to operate and extend it confidently.

Ways to engage us
Platform health assessment

A focused review of the architecture, software, infrastructure, data, security, delivery process and operational risks, followed by a prioritised roadmap.

Modernisation pilot

A bounded implementation that proves the proposed approach—for example, replacing a fragile pipeline, improving deployment, modernising an API, reducing infrastructure cost or migrating a selected workload.

Modernisation delivery

Hands-on leadership and implementation of an incremental modernisation programme, working with your internal team and suppliers.
